A bystander was injured, officials said, after gunfire erupted following a car crash in North Philly late Wednesday.

According to police, officers responded to a report of a crash and a man with a firearm at the intersection of Gratz Street and Susquehanna Avenue at about 11:05 p.m. on Wednesday.

At the scene, officers found evidence that two vehicles had been involved in a crash and there were multiple spend shell casings littering the roadway.

As officers investigated the scene, a man approached investigators to report that he had been shot.

The man told officers he was standing on a nearby corner with friends when an individual began firing shots in his direction.

The victim fled the area but soon realized he had been struck in the shoulder. First responders then took the man to a nearby hospital where he was listed in stable condition following the shooting, police said.

Police did not immediately provide further information on the vehicles involved in the crash or the gunman sought in this incident.

No arrests were immediately announced and, officials said, no motive was immediately clear.

But, an investigation into the incident is underway.
